Spring is just around the corner, that means motorcycle season is soon to follow here in Northwest Indiana. That first nice day is nearing and you will want to ride. However, after sitting all winter in the shed or barn your bike more than likely needs a little TLC.
A good place to start is to get the trickle charger on the battery. If you don’t already have one make sure to buy one with a limiter as not to overcharge the battery. These can be found at most big box stores for around $20.
The next thing to do is inspect your fluids and top off where necessary. Brake fluid levels with go down as your brakes wear and will need a periodic topping off. Then check your air filter for debris and replace as needed.
Tire maintenance is one of the most important things to check each season. Check each tire for damage and proper inflation to ensure a safe ride. If you have a tire that repeatedly goes low, find a motorcycle shop or qualified tire repair facility to determine what is causing the leak.
After all this has been done, you’ll want to give your bike a nice bath and polish. Then you’ll want to get out on the road to ride. Remember to make sure your insurance is up to date too.
